This central section of Mount Rushmore covers 1,278 acres in the Black Hills. Here, visitors walk along the Avenue of Flags to the Grand View Terrace. You can view the 60-foot granite faces sculpted by Gutzon Borglum.

Most visitors start their day in this area. Climbing the monument itself is strictly prohibited. These pathways provide the closest allowed access to the sculpture.
